I got Kelly from Sandy Herzon of Chambray Labradors in Miami, Florida. I had looked at a number of websites and contacted several about the possibility of obtaining a puppy with the goal to begin showing in conformation. A lot of responses I recieved indicated they only sold their puppies with limited registration.
What I liked about the Chambray website was Sandy's philosophy about the Betterment of the Breed - "to raise the best and place the best". I contacted Sandy and expressed my interest in a yellow female show prospect. After several emails discussing my interests and to get to know each other, Sandy notified me he had a yellow female that had potential. Kelly came to Kentucky on December 21, 2010. The picture above on the left is Kelly on her first day in her new home.
I am not able to go to very many dog shows because I work on weekends. I began looking for a handler in the area and found Diane Steele in Scottsville, KY, approximately 3 hours from where I live. At her first show at six months of age, Summer won First in her class, Reserve Winners Bitch and Second in Variety Group Puppy.
Kelly is super obedient, and if I had the time would probably excel in agility. She loves to "seek and find", a game we play that provides a lot of mental stimulation.
Unlike Jack, Kelly could care less about tennis balls. She will retrieve a dummy from the water until she is worn out. Kelly keeps a constant eye on me. She is by no means a "Velcro" dog, but she does watch my every move - goes with me from room to room - and will take up a position across the room and watch. She is a great companion dog!
Kelly has had two litters. The first breeding to Gr Ch Summithill Joshua's Battle at Jericho produced 5 puppies (2 males and 3 females) on October 26, 2014, and many of them are currently showing. One of the female pups, Chambrays Grace of the Field recently obtained her championship. The second breeding to Tucker only produced one male pup. I decided to keep and show him. He is Chambray Faithful Chase. I am looking forward to seeing how he does on the show circuit.
Kelly...on to the show...
